The city has the powers granted to municipal corporations and cities under a Home-Rule Charter. The governing body of the city is the City Council which consists of an elected mayor and five (5) council members. Each council member represents a district or ward within the city. There are two regular City Council meetings per month. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council to an indefinite term and is the chief administrative and executive officer of the city. City Departments Airport Board: The Alpine-Casparis Municipal Airport (432-837-5929) is owned and operated by the City of Alpine. It is a public use general aviation airport. Some of the aviation-related activities that take place at the airport on a regular basis include flight training and education, corporate use, air cargo shipping and receiving, and recreational flying. Animal Advisory Board: Receives suggestions, studies situations, plans, projects and generally acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council regarding the city animal shelter and related matters. City Council: Meets the first and third Tuesday of the month in Council Chambers. Environmental Advisory Board: Receives suggestions, studies situations, plans, projects and generally acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council relating to environmental issues. Parks and Recreation Board: Receives suggestions, studies situations, plans, projects and generally acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council relative to the parks and recreation programs of the city. Planning and Zoning Commission: Recommends boundaries for the original zoning districts and appropriate zoning regulations for each district. Provides reports and holds public hearings before submitting a final report to the City Council. Utility Department: Provides water/sewer facilities and services within city limits. The water utilities are owned by the City of Alpine. The City’s water is provided by two primary well fields and several individual wells. The City also provides gas service to residents and businesses. |
